In any emergency situation; whether its man made or all natural, one common problem in the after math is the lack of clean water. This is where a supply of emergency water is most needed.
Whenever we hear about a disaster anywhere in the world the first issue we hear about is the lack of clean water. It doesn't matter how rich the country is, when there s a disaster fresh water supplies get blocked. Many families suffer because of this. Also the unhygienic water that is available could make way for various diseases and epidemics and other health issues. This is why governments rush into carry in emergency water before any other relief is even thought of.
Emergency water is something that could be included in your emergency pack and this is something that many people don't think of or realize. The emergency supply kit of each individual should carry enough water to sustain them for at least a few days. Another idea would be to store emergency water at a safe place that could be retrieved at a time of emergency.
Water could be stored within your household in various ways. The most common would be to use food grade plastic bottles. Used soda bottles fall under this category but many experts advice not to use used milk bottles because of their tendency to grow bacteria in that type of container. Therefore make sure you use soda bottles and seal the bottle caps tightly on before storing them away at a safe accessible location. It'd be great if you could purchase one of those water containters meant for the purpose or if you could store purified water bottles, a couple of bottles extra, at your house at all times. But make sure that the water bottles are certified by the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) or the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).
