Wireless Router Antenna

A wireless router is a device that can help you create a home network or connect to one just by receiving and sending radio waves. It is the wireless router antenna that sends the signal that is then picked up by all the wireless devices available, such as laptops. The radio waves are converted into electric impulses that a computer can afterward translate into data. Wireless technology saves the problem of cords and cables, making networking a lot easier and definitely more flexible.

There are two types of wireless router antennas: a directional wireless router antenna and an omni-directional router antenna. The directional antenna broadcasts the signal in a certain direction, and it is very powerful. The omni-directional antenna provides a lower signal but it offers you the chance to use wireless devices throughout the home in a very advantageous way. If you set the wireless router antenna in the middle of the house, you can access all the wireless devices in the home without any problem.

Some users want to enhance the signal and therefore choose to use an extender for the wireless router antenna they have available. The signal sent by the router will bounce against the extender which will increase the signal frequency. This is the principle on which wifi is available to customers in restaurants, airports and other locations. The extender can send the signal between one or three miles away from the router. You can provide wifi to the entire street, in fact!

One other classification for router antennas is into internal and external. An external wireless router antenna will always send a more powerful signal in comparison with an internal one. I strongly recommend that you test any wireless router you intend to buy so as to make sure that the features it provides match your needs. There may be more than just one wireless router antenna available with the device. It is important to get an item that has a removable antenna, because you may need to upgrade or replace it.

You can check the number antennas that you can attach to a router by counting the ports. When installing routers, pay attention to all the instructions including to those specific to the antennas. There won't be any signal available if a directional antenna isn't oriented correctly. And always adapt your wifi system to your practical purposes and your needs. It's not difficult but it can get tricky occasionally!
